NEW: Let My Soul Surrender - Book and CD!

Let My Soul Surrender

LET MY SOUL SURRENDER, GRACE NOTES OF A JOURNEY

Book and Companion CD

RELEASE DATE:

June 2011

INTRODUCTION:

"Let My Soul Surrender: Grace Notes of a Journey," is the latest CD project that includes a book of stories with paintings and photographs. Rickie Byars Beckwith tells the fascinating stories that live behind each of the amazing songs on her latest CD titled, Let My Soul Surrender.

“Surrender is hard work at first. The ego fights to exist in ways that feel safe and familiar. I had to receive something greater about myself than I had known. And the way I learned is revealed in the songs and stories on this, my favorite project to date,” says Rickie BB who assembled a crew of musicians and singers the likes of John Barnes, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Diva Gray, Chris Woods, Stephan Muldrow, James Gadson, Ndugu Chancler,

Sekou Bunche, Adrienne Woods and Leon Mobley. Real magic happened when Rickie joined artistically with Ricky Rouse, of Parliament Funkadelic. That's when Detroit met Charlotte in a very soulful collaboration of vintage electric Wurlitzer piano and guitar.

Project Manager, John Barnes, added the polish that makes a record glow. John produced and co-wrote with Michael Jackson on "Smooth Criminal," and other great MJ classics. He is a Grammy Award winning producer with platinum and gold records from projects with Lionel Ritchie, the Pointer Sisters, Janet Jackson and Tony Braxton, amongst others. John shares the vision, along with so many others who love Rickie's music, that the time is now for her songs to reach a broader audience. "The world needs to hear this music," says John. And those who love the songs of Rickie Byars and Michael Bernard Beckwith would most certainly agree.

Dudley Declaime Perkins, widely known as an MC/Producer/label CEO for SomeOthaShip Connect, is also a visual artist with a remarkable talent. Rickie called upon him to read her stories, listen to the songs and then to paint from his heart. And paint... he did! "The book feels good when you hold it and this is due to the elegance of Dudley's paintings with the tasteful Graphics Design of Judi Paliungas and Susanne Abraham. In every way, we all brought our best," says Rickie, "and we are all truly delighted  with the final display of our teamwork.

NOTES:

Every song has a story behind it. Sometimes the stories are exciting and hopeful. Sometimes they are heart wrenching and full of questions. In Let My Soul Surrender, beloved singer Rickie Byars Beckwith tells the fascinating stories behind each of the songs on her companion CD, also titled Let My Soul Surrender: Grace Notes of a Journey.

Overflowing with grace – as well as Rickie’s trademark honesty, humor and wisdom – the stories in Let My Soul Surrender provide an intimate look at how the Spirit works through Rickie in the creation of her music.  In her own voice, one of the most celebrated composers of spiritual music in the world pulls us into her living room, her front porch, her childhood, a temple with His Holiness the Dalai Lama or out on our with James Brown. The stories she tells have the ability to enlighten and uplift as profoundly as the songs themselves.

About

Let My Soul Surrender - Book and Companion CD

What makes my first book so special is that I had to put on the clothes of a writer. It's not like I was not a writer all along, but in this project, I accepted the voice inside of me. I let go of the chatter in my head that measured my gifts against those of others. MY story is what I wanted to share. I realized that I could do this book my way. I wanted photographs and paintings that would support the stories that needed to jump off the page. I wanted people to feel what I feel when I write a song. I wanted them to know what is moving in me when a melody or harmony gets my attention. I wanted people to meet a part of me they had never heard or seen.

Award winning photographers Bonnie Schiffman, Carl Studna; incredible fashion designers, House of SITA, Wilbourn Sisters; and Dudley Declaime Perkins, a celebrated MC whose talents as visual artist are not known to the world. All of this and a GREAT cd is what the hoopla is all about!

And the music on this cd is so special for so many reasons. I grew up. I finally could feel myself as an artist. I truly accepted that I get to be me this time! I've been recording for many years with incredible producers but this time, I knew what I wanted to feel and I stood for my ideas. I loved working with Larry Fergusson and John Barnes a very dear friend and genius producer.
